Trademarks

What is a trademark?

Essentially it is protection for your brand. When fully registered a trademark protects you from competitors or other organisations trading off your good name.  If you have worked hard to build up your reputation and promote your company in a certain light associated with your logo or other marker of your company then you want to make sure it is protected.

Not only is this important in your domestic markets but also very important when expanding overseas. You need to ensure you have the same protection in any new market you are entering. Don't be held back from entering new markets by potential competitors beating you to trademark registrations!

Your Export Department recommend talking to Dummett Copp as part of your preparation for export development. They can advise you on the level of protection that is appropriate for your business and whether UK, EU or Worldwide registrations are suitable.
